Originally from Cleveland Hts., Ohio, Barbara is a graduate of Westminster College where she majored in Elementary Education with a minor in Art. She earned a Master’s degree at the U. of Pittsburgh in Special Education and Rehabilitation, and upon completion, began her 33-year career as a Learning Support Resource Teacher in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Retirement finally allowed Barbara the freedom to indulge her life-long interest in art!
Since 2002, she has been juried into the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society, the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, and was awarded “signature membership” in the PA Watercolor Society. She is an active member of the East Suburban Artists’ League (ESAL) and coordinator of the group’s monthly exhibits at the Murrysville Library. Barbara is also an exhibiting member of the Latrobe Art Center. Her work has been juried into regional and national shows and has garnered numerous awards over the years. Barbara has chosen the watercolor medium for its challenge, as well as for its versatility. Her subject matter is varied, with an emphasis drawn from the world of nature. Her style is typically realistic, characterized by the use of bold color and attention to detail.
Barbara considers herself blessed with wonderful new friends and connections with others who have taught, guided, and encouraged her in pursuing what was for years her “first love,” which has since become a rewarding and fulfilling new “chapter” of her post-retirement life.
